Planning a family beach holiday in Mallorca, Spain?
We recently spent 7 days in Mallorca with our two-year-old daughter, and instead of trying to squeeze in every attraction, we planned a holiday built around relaxation.
For us, that meant choosing a quieter beach area, staying within walking distance of the sea, booking half-board instead of all-inclusive, and limiting sightseeing to one carefully planned day trip.
Looking back, it was one of the most relaxing family holidays we've had.
If you're travelling with a baby or toddler and want to enjoy Mallorca without feeling rushed, this guide shares everything we learned—from choosing where to stay to deciding whether half board is worth it, along with practical tips we wish we'd known before travelling.

Why Mallorca is Perfect for Families
Mallorca has everything we look for in a family beach holiday.
Beautiful beaches.
Warm, shallow Mediterranean water.
Reliable sunshine.
Easy flight from Denmark.
Modern family-friendly facilities.
Most importantly, it's a destination where you don't feel pressured to spend every day sightseeing.
Instead of rushing between attractions, you can slow down, enjoy long days by the beach, relax by the pool, and spend quality time together.
If your idea of the perfect holiday includes sandy beaches, relaxed afternoons, delicious food, and a few carefully chosen day trips, Mallorca, Spain delivers exactly that.
It's the kind of destination where doing less often means enjoying more—and that's exactly why we'd happily return.
Arriving at Palma Airport with Kids
The first thing that surprised us was how large Palma de Mallorca Airport is.
After landing in the evening, we still had a long walk through the terminal before reaching baggage claim and the transfer buses.
Our biggest tip? Bring your own stroller.
Even if your toddler normally prefers walking, the airport is large enough that you'll almost certainly end up using it.
We travelled with TUI, and the arrival process was excellent.
Unfortunately, one of our suitcases arrived late.
Thankfully, two TUI representatives were already waiting at baggage claim to help passengers with delayed luggage, and our transfer bus waited until everything had been sorted.
After a full day of travelling, that level of organisation made arriving much less stressful.
DIY Trippers Tip: If you're arriving late in the evening, check whether your accommodation offers a welcome food package. Ours meant we didn't need to search for an open supermarket after a long travel day.
Where to Stay in Mallorca with Kids: Why We Chose Playa de Muro
For us, choosing where to stay was far more important than choosing the biggest resort.
After researching several areas in Mallorca, we chose Playa de Muro as our base and stayed at Grupotel Alcudia Pins. Looking back, we honestly think it was the perfect choice for our family.
Compared with busier parts of Mallorca, Playa de Muro felt calmer and more spacious.
There were supermarkets, restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, bicycle and ATV rental shops, and even a car rental office all within walking distance. Everything we needed was close by, yet the area still felt peaceful and relaxed.
One feature quickly became our favourite: direct access to the beach.
No roads.
No carrying bags for twenty minutes.
No loading everything back into the car.
Within minutes, we could walk from our apartment to the sand.
When you're travelling with a toddler, those little conveniences make a huge difference.

Half Board vs All Inclusive: Which Is Better for Families?
Many families automatically choose all-inclusive.
We almost did too.
Instead, we booked half board, and we'd make the same decision again.
Breakfast and dinner were included every day, while lunch remained completely flexible.
That meant we could:
Explore Palma without rushing back for lunch.
Spend a full day in Sóller.
Try local cafés.
Enjoy beach restaurants.
Eat wherever we happened to be.
If we'd booked all-inclusive, we probably would have felt obligated to return to the hotel every lunchtime.
For our holiday style, half board offered the perfect balance between convenience and flexibility.
Breakfasts were generous, dinners changed every evening, and we still experienced local food during the day.
Our Apartment Made Travelling with a Toddler Much Easier
One thing that made the holiday noticeably easier was having enough space.
Our apartment included:
Two bedrooms
Kitchenette
Balcony
Dining table
Plenty of storage
Before arriving, we ordered the hotel's welcome package.
Inside were:
Bread
Eggs
Cheese
Butter
Jam
Juice
Bottled water
Chocolate drinks
Because we arrived late, having breakfast and snacks waiting for us was incredibly convenient.
Instead of heading straight back out to find food, we simply unpacked, ate together and settled in.
The apartment also included washing-up supplies, while self-service washing machines were available on-site and could easily be paid for by card.
Another reassuring feature for families was the on-site medical clinic.
Thankfully, we never needed it, but knowing it was there provided peace of mind.
Why We Planned a Relaxing Itinerary
One of the best decisions we made was deliberately planning less.
Rather than filling every day with activities, we only planned one sightseeing day.
The rest of the holiday was spent enjoying the beach, swimming pools, playground and simply relaxing together.
Looking back, we never once felt bored.
Instead, we came home feeling refreshed.
As parents, that's exactly what we wanted.
Palma with Kids
Our sightseeing day started in Palma.
We parked at Parc de la Mar, directly opposite Palma Cathedral, which made exploring the old town very easy.
The city is beautiful.
Narrow streets.
Historic buildings.
Street musicians.
Ice cream shops.
Beautiful cafés.
Palm trees.
It feels lively without being overwhelming.
The only challenge was the July heat.
By midday, temperatures were already extremely high.
If you're visiting Mallorca during summer, we'd definitely recommend arriving as early as possible.
Leaving Palma was probably the busiest driving of our entire holiday, so allowing extra time helped keep things relaxed.
A Scenic Day Trip to Sóller
Driving to Sóller turned out to be one of our favourite experiences.
We chose the tunnel route instead of the mountain road.
It was easy to drive, even in a small rental car.
Outside Palma, the scenery completely changed.
Rolling countryside.
Orange groves.
Mountains.
Quiet villages.
Beautiful viewpoints.
Even the drive became part of the holiday.
Parking required a little patience, but we eventually found a small cash-only car park close to the town centre.
Rather than trying to see everything, we simply wandered through the streets, enjoyed refreshments and soaked up the atmosphere before heading back.
Sometimes slowing down creates the best memories.
Why Playa de Muro Is One of the Best Beaches in Mallorca for Families
If someone asked us what we loved most about Mallorca, our answer would probably be: the beach.
Playa de Muro is exactly what many families imagine when planning a Mediterranean holiday.
Soft sand.
A long, wide beach.
A gradual shoreline.
Shallow, clear water that's ideal for young children.
Plenty of space to spread out.
Even during our stay in July, the beach never felt overly crowded. There was always enough room to find a comfortable spot without feeling surrounded by other visitors.
Although the summer temperatures were high, the beach never felt uncomfortably hot thanks to the refreshing sea breeze. It made spending long mornings by the water much more enjoyable, even on the warmest days.
The sea was a little wavy on some days, which our daughter loved splashing in, but it was still shallow enough for young children to play safely near the shore. On calmer days, the water was almost perfectly still, making it even better for toddlers and less confident swimmers.
Our daughter happily spent hours building sandcastles and splashing in the sea.
Because our apartment was only a few minutes' walk away, there was never any pressure to stay for hours.
If she became tired, hungry, or needed a nap, we simply walked back.
That flexibility made every beach day feel incredibly relaxed—and it's one of the reasons we'd happily stay in Playa de Muro again.
Resort Life with a Toddler
Some of our happiest memories weren't from sightseeing.
They happened right at the resort.
Swimming together.
Watching our daughter enjoy the playground.
Relaxing beside the pool.
Watching the entertainment after dinner.
The pools never felt overcrowded, and there were areas designed specifically for younger children.
The shaded playground also became one of our daughter's favourite places during the hotter parts of the day.
Those slower moments became the memories we still talk about today.

One Last Tip Before Flying Home
Our return flight wasn't until the evening.
Thankfully, checking out didn't mean the holiday had to end.
After leaving our apartment, we could still use:
Swimming pools
Showers
Towels
Luggage lockers
Air-conditioned reception
Instead of sitting at the airport for hours, we enjoyed another relaxing day before our transfer arrived.
It was the perfect ending to the holiday.

Final Thoughts
When we think back on our week in Mallorca, we don't remember rushing from one attraction to another.
We remember peaceful mornings by the sea.
Long afternoons watching our daughter play on the beach.
Relaxed dinners together.
A beautiful drive through the mountains to Sóller.
And returning home feeling genuinely rested.
If you're planning Mallorca with kids, our biggest piece of advice is simple: don't try to do everything.
Choose a family-friendly area, spend time at the beach, leave room for spontaneity and enjoy the slower pace.
Sometimes the most memorable family holidays are the ones where you do a little less—and enjoy it a lot more.
